Fish oil certainly makes a good anti aging supplement and is a good addition to your anti-aging diet program.
Fish should be a significant part of your daily anti-aging diet or at least try to consume it three to four times a week, if possible. Another study by the Massachusetts General Hospital, as reported in the New England Journal of Medicine on April 11, 2006, found that men who had evidence of prior heart disease significantly reduced their risk of sudden death by consuming omega-3 fatty acids in fish oil. Try to consume at least 1 g per day of omega-3 fatty acids, and you will significantly reduce the risk of sudden death sometimes experienced by heart attacks and other coronary artery-related ailments. Omega-3 fatty acids appear to reduce the triglyceride levels, stabilize the blood clotting mechanisms, and reduce blood pressure. Fish oil makes a good anti-aging product in any diet and should be consumed on a regular basis. It is also been shown to potentially benefit the cardiovascular system and there is now nearly irrefutable evidence that omega-3 fatty acids benefit the heart.
Things you need to be aware of:
1. Fish oils are best tolerated when taken with meals, and, if possible, should be taken in divided doses.
2. Be aware that cod liver oil is not always a good substitute for fish oil supplements as it may be high in Vitamins A and D.
3. The most common side effects are fishy smelling burps and diarrhea.
4. The only significant safety concerns regarding fish oil involve its apparent “blood thinning” effect. On this basis, fish oil should be used only under a physician’s care by people with bleeding disorders such as hemophilia, those taking strong prescription blood thinners, such as Coumadin (warfarin) or heparin, and those expecting to undergo surgery.
5. If you take blood pressure lowering medication, be aware that fish oil may further lower blood pressure.
6. High doses (over 3 grams per day) of fish oil may suppress the immune system. Unless medically necessary, such doses should be avoided, particularly by immuno-compromised individuals.
7. Contrary to earlier reports, fish oil does not appear to adversely affect blood sugar levels in people with diabetes.
