Can Vitamin C Help Fight The Effects Of Aging?

Vitamin C is essential to wrinkle prevention and to get rid of wrinkles which develop. Vitamin C serums are a very popular skincare product right now.

Vitamin C serums can cost anywhere from $30 to $100 for just one ounce.  You can make your own Vitamin C serum very reasonably and it will be very effective.

Vitamin C serums contain the active ingredient L-ascorbic acid, which is clinically proven to prevent and repair free radical damage to the skin and protect against UV sun ray damage

L-ascorbic acid also stimulates collagen, which is very important to staying young-looking.  You don’t need to spend hundreds of dollars on expensive Vitamin C serums, because you can make your own.  Your own homemade serum may be more effective than store-bought products.

When you buy it in the store, the serum will eventually turn orange, which means it has oxidized and is no longer good.  By making the product at home, you’re ensured that it is a fresh batch and that you’ll use it before it goes bad.  Recipes range from rather basic to more advanced.  Here is a good example of an effective recipe that you can make at home:

Basic Vitamin C Serum

4 teaspoons of distilled water
1 teaspoon of L-ascorbic acid (powder or crystals)
1 teaspoon glycerin or propylene glycerin

Mix all ingredients together and apply twice a day to your face as part of your daily skincare regimen.  Distilled water can be purchased in almost any grocery store for $1.00 or less.  Make sure you are using purely distilled water because it needs to be sterile.  L-ascorbic acid is absorbed by the skin very easily and can typically be found in your local health food store or the organic section of some grocery stores.  Make sure you are getting L-ascorbic acid and not ascorbic acid alone.  Some websites sell it for $4.00 for 4 ounces, which makes it very reasonable at a dollar an ounce.

Glycerin is excellent for dry skin and can easily be found online or at your local health food store.  You can also find it in drug stores such as Walgreen’s or CVS.  If your skin is oily, use propylene glycerin.  You can also use a combination of propylene glycerin and glycerin.
Store your serum in an amber colored glass bottle.  Apply a few drops on your neck and face after washing your skin.  Do not apply moisturizer or makeup for at least 10 minutes after applying the serum.
