Covering Of Blemishes

Acne can cause blemishes. These blemishes can be covered up and still keep your skin looking natural.

A blemish is a mar in the skin caused by pimples, blocked pores, a skin rash or scarring. Instead of feeling uncomfortable with how you look, keep a few basic makeup supplies on hand to conceal blemishes.

There are easy steps to keep blemishes from reoccurring and conceal them.

Step 1:  Wash your hands before handling your face. Dirt and oils on your hands will only aggravate the blemish.

Step 2:  Choose a concealer appropriate to the color and type of blemish you wish to hide.  Concealer is a creamier foundation makeup with added pigments intended for specific parts of your face.

Step 3:  Pick a yellow-tinted concealer to hide red blemishes; choose a concealer a little lighter than your blemish for hiding darker marks.

Step 4:  Choose a masking cosmetic (which is thicker than concealer and has added pigment) to hide more prominent blemishes, such as small scars left from pimples or skin irregularities.

Step 5:  Apply the concealer or masking cosmetic over the blemish using your finger, an eye shadow brush or sponge.

Step 6: Blend the edges with the surrounding skin, using a circular motion.

Step 7:  Set the masking cosmetic with a special setting powder, then apply oil-free foundation and powder on top.

There are a few other options to cover blemishes.  You can try a cover stick, which is a stick version of a concealer. These contain a high proportion of wax to add body and thickness.  Also, cover sticks aggravate acne, so use them sparingly if you're prone to breaking out.

Masking cosmetics are usually not available at drugstores or beauty aid stores but can be purchased at major department stores. They're expensive, but effective.

Using too much makeup to cover blemishes may make skin look blotchy. Start conservatively, and add as needed.  With a little make up know-how and a few tips, you can be concealing beauty flaws and covering blemishes like an expert.
In order to cover a blemish, you can use yellow, lavender or green concealer make up (depending on your skin tone).  Stick concealer make up tends to offer the best coverage.  You'll also need foundation make up and some face powder.

In summary, there are a lot of rules as to which make up concealer color works best with which skin tones, but it's truly best to go to a makeup counter and try them each for yourself. After you've applied the concealer, blend the makeup using a cotton swab or your finger tip, then apply your base foundation make up as usual and dust with some face powder to set.
