Are Wrinkles Genetic: What Do You Need To Worry About?

Is it possible that wrinkles are a genetic problem? Our genes play a huge part of our overall general health. These days, cosmetics companies are making the claim that they can examine your genetic fingerprint by doing a swab of the inside of your cheek and then for a pricy dollar amount, they will make a skin cream specific to your needs based on your unique fingerprint.

We now know that genes influence acne, oily skin, dry skin and skin wrinkles.  We’re just not entirely sure yet which genes are most important to the skin appearance and which genes cause wrinkling are still a mystery.

There are some companies which will analyze your genes and send you a free report

23andMe is a website which will analyze your genes and send you a skin report, but at this time, the report will not tell you anything about your risks for skin cancer, wrinkles or other skin diseases.  These results are not yet available because we do not know enough about genetics and aging to provide this type of information.

Protect your skin from the harsh rays of the sun.  That means wearing sunscreen and hats whenever necessary, even on days when the sun isn’t visible.  Even if you are sitting in your car or indoors, but near a window, the rays of the sun can be damaging to your skin.  Follow a healthy diet and avoid over-consumption of alcohol.
