Facelift Surgery To Turn Back The Hands Of Time

Before you consider facelift surgery to get rid of fine lines and wrinkles, consider the pros and cons of the surgery in order to determine if a facelift is right for you.

A facelift is a surgical procedure meant to lift up the facial skin and tissues and/or underlying muscle in order to make the face tighter and smoother.  There are different types of facelift operations, but we’ll discuss the most common procedures below.

Depending on your individual facial issues and preference, your overall surgery and care may vary

Your facial muscles slacken and become less elastic as you get older.  A facelift operation may give you a more “alert” and youthful appearance by reducing sagging and wrinkles of the skin.

A full facelift is done on your whole face or you may get a lift of just your brow area, lower face or neck only.  The effects of whichever facelift procedure you choose will last for approximately 10 years.  Your results will work best if you achieve and maintain a stable body weight and have skin with good levels of elasticity along with a strong bone structure.  If you are older or you spend a great deal of time in the sun, your results will not last as long.

Your surgeon may use other procedures in conjunction with the facelift in order to achieve better results.  Resurfacing techniques reduce wrinkles, whereas a chemical peel may improve and smooth texture of the facial skin by removing its damaged outer layer.  Tissue augmentation plumps out deep wrinkles with fillers.  Your wrinkles can be flattened out with botulinum toxin injections and is particularly suitable for forehead lines and squint lines at the corners of your eyes.  Creams, gels and beauty treatments can help to tighten your skin, however, research has not proven these creams and gels to work permanently.

The best option is to take care of your skin and prevent wrinkles when you are younger.  Waiting until you are older and the wrinkles and fine lines start to appear may be too late.  Observe sun smarts by protecting your skin from the harsh rays of the sun with hats and sunscreen.  The sun can damage your skin even if you can’t see it or are sitting inside of your vehicle.  Follow a proper daily skincare regimen, implementing it twice a day (in the morning and at night before bed).  Never go to bed wearing your makeup and avoid sleeping with your face pressed into your pillow.  If you tend to roll over on your belly anyway, use a silk or satin pillowcase to decrease facial lines which may occur during sleep when in this position.
