You can get wrinkles on your face and neck. However, it is easy to prevent neck wrinkles in three easy steps.
The neck is a body part that is one of the most vulnerable to fine lines and wrinkles. This is because the skin is much thinner on the neck than it is on the face, making it more susceptible to UV damage from natural sunlight and any other forms of UV light.
The support mechanisms of the neck and throat are also relatively weak, and therefore less able to battle against the gravitational pull we all experience as we get older.
Causes of wrinkles around the neck
As we grow older, our body fat is redistributed around the body. Unfortunately one of the places we tend to lose fat is the neck, along with the eyes and cheeks. The lack of fat under the skin means that there is a reduced level of support and why older people tend to have sagging bands of skin around the neck and throat.
Other possible causes of neck wrinkles can be a bad diet, a poor skin care routine, excessive sun exposure, or a combination of all these things.
The best course of action is to treat your neck and chest in the same way that you do your face. Cleanse, tone and moisturize the entire area on a daily basis, and make sure you always wear sunscreen.
There are three simple steps to help avoid neck wrinkles:
Tip 1: Hold your head up
During the day, if you are constantly looking down at your books or computer screen, you are creating furrowing in your neck and that can lead to unwanted neck creases.
To avoid this, make certain that your computer screen is at eye level and that when you read you are looking straight ahead, not downward. Additionally, be aware of your head position throughout the day while walking and standing. Consciously hold you head upward. This not only looks better but it will enhance your posture and limit neck strain.
Tip 2: Avoid high pillows at bed time
When you sleep, are you on a hill of pillows? You can avoid giving yourself eight hours of wrinkle inducing sleep by increasing the angle between your neck and face while you sleep. When lying on your back, you can simply add a two to four inch cushion beneath the groove between the back of your head and neck. This will lengthen the neck, improve breathing and limit the formation of wrinkles on the neck.
Tip 3: Exfoliate and moisturize your neck
To keep your neck looking as youthful as your face, it is imperative that you treat your neck each time you nurture your face. For example, when applying your daily sunscreen, make certain to cover your neck as well.
